BTW, did you folks vote for our blog over at abajournal? I can't believe HP is getting a** whooped by the Temporary Attorney blog! Somehow I am insulted. Though in this market, I guess I see the interest in finding a job as a temporary attorney. Anyway, please vote when you have a chance. For no other reason than HP doesn't like to lose.

HP - I've got a proposal / suggestion for driving more traffic to your blog, but would rather discuss offline. If you are interested in discussing, please e-mail me at felicitousfool@yahoo.com.
Thanks!
...also
- post more often
- jazz up the site
- don't be so pompous
then you might win!
Yes to posting more often. Completely don't care about jazzing up the site (I come here for advice, not entertainment).
As for the third point- I'm a second year at a big law firm, and believe me you haven't seen anything remotely close to the pomposity I see at my firm on a daily basis. I do not find HP pompous at all. Let HP be HP, and even if the tone does not fit everyone's appetite, people can still take the core advice and run with it. This stuff's helpful.
Agree that HP must post more often, and HP will come off as pompous to some people just because he refers to himself in the third person and as hiring partner.
Personally, my problem is that so many of his posts are written as though they are elucidating the masses with epiphanies and insights that only the great HP can provide, yet the information, in fact, is little more than boilerplate information that those of us who are intelligent and remotely informed already know.
Also, there's nothing at all interesting or special about his writing style.
So a guy who thinks highly of himself isn't the problem. It's that he thinks highly of himself and fails to realize that the information he's offering is usually generic and his writing style is not the least bit entertaining.
I have worked in this job for four years and still find the "generic" reminders and pointers useful. Just the other day a first year asked me whether he should write a thank you note to a senior partner after SP took him out for dinner. Common sense is not as common or obvious. The important thing about this blog is getting validation from someone who, in his/her senior position, can tell us for a fact that certain types of conduct and strategies matter, no matter how generic it may seem.
Hey folks, thanks for the input. HP said at the very beginning a lot of this was going to be common sense but in view of the various faux pas I saw at my firms, and heard from my friends at other places, it seemed like common sense information needed to be reviewed.
HP will try to post more often. Sometimes HP isn't inspired by a particular topic; sometimes HP is just busy; HP is recruiting some guest posters. They have been a little shy.
HP thinks some of the charm is in the basic site.
i know people come for the information...that is why i check the site regularly. however, when asking for a blog award, aesthetics matter...
A basic site is fine, we come here for information, not for flashy animations.
But having said that, we come here for information. I understand that HP is busy and doing this in his spare time, and we should be grateful for that, but the lack of regular updates also means that the blog is not quite award-worthy (yet) because the posts are too infrequent.
not enough posts to merit manually checking this blog on a regular basis. unless you subscribe to the RSS feed, you forget this blog exists.
